"So You Think You're Ready For Intermediates!"

We spend a good amount of time teaching the Beginner moves to Beginners: we feel that it is important that a base level of moves are learnt (and learnt properly) by you, so that when it is time for you to move up to Intermediates you are ready for it.

Attempts to move up too early can lead to a dancer who has difficulty keeping up with the classes, and who is also so preoccupied with the more complex moves that style and technique are compromised.

The Beginners moves are:

Arch Hatchback Push-Pull
Basket Ladies Spin Secret Move
Short Butterfly Loophole Closed Sway
Change Places Neckbreak Windmill
Figure Eight Nigel's Move Wurlitzer
First Move Overhead Change Yo-Yo

bulletYou must be able to give and receive signals without hesitation
bulletYou must be able to count beats (preferably to the music!).
bulletYou must be able to spin (without falling over at the end of it).

You should spend at least ten weeks in Beginners, slightly longer for men, before attempting an Intermediate class. Bear in mind that when starting Intermediates you will feel like a complete Beginner!

Finally, when you are ready to move up to intermediates ask one of your teachers for their opinion.
