Please ensure that you are on time for the classes - if you are a Beginner and you try jumping in partway through a class you might just find that you end up in over your head! Below are the class details. Class Structure
Doors Open 7.45pmThe doors open, and the music is put on so that you can either have a chat with your friends or have a relaxed warm-up session before the class starts.
Beginners Class 1: 8.00pm (prompt) - 8.45pmThe Beginner class starts at 8.00pm prompt. This is followed by a short break for 15 minutes, and a Beginner Practice/Intermediates warm-up.
Beginners Class 2 & Intermediates 9.00pm (prompt) - 9.45pmThis is the second teaching session. Beginners 2: 9.00pm - 9.45pm (Small Hall)Elmgrove LeRoc offers something here that no other class can match: in each evening, we give the Beginners TWO classes for the price of one, which accelerates your learning, and also gives us time to work on style and technique properly - something which may not be covered in other classes due to lack of time. So... the Beginners go next door into the smaller hall for a friendly, relaxed, informal Beginner Workshop - revising the moves taught in the earlier First class, and also adding an extra move to the Beginner routine for the evening. The format of this is far less formal than the first Beginner class - it is a workshop, so any questions or problems can be addressed in an easy, relaxed manner. This class covers the nitty-gritty things like footwork, spinning, where your hands go, style points, how to cover up mistakes that you make (and still look good!) and we work on questions like "Why does my backside stick out when everybody else's doesn't?!" (Don't laugh - there is a good reason for this, and a very easy solution). You are encouraged to ask questions or query any part of the routine. There's one thing for certain: if you want to ask a question then you can bet your bottom dollar that everybody else is thinking it! Intermediates: 9.00pm - 9.45pm (Main Hall)While the Beginner class continues in the small hall, the Intermediates class also starts at 9.00pm up in the main hall. If you are unsure about whether you are ready for Intermediates, please see our "So You Think You Are Ready For Intermediates" page/leaflet. This will give you information about when you should start the Intermediate sessions and will list all Beginner moves which you are expected to know well at this level.
General Dance 9.45pm - 10.45pmThe Beginner Part 2 and Intermediate Class both finish at 9.45pm. This is followed by a General Dance (all levels) 9.45pm - 10.45pm in the main hall, where everybody gets to practice the new moves learnt during the evening, have a good chin-wag with their friends and meet new people, and of course enjoy a good dance in a fun atmosphere to good music. In the general dance, the lights go down, the music goes up, the smoke machine is turned on the light show begins. You'll have a whale of a time! These free-dance sessions are really popular - quite often people come in after the classes just to meet up and dance for the remainder of the evening. During the free dance, all of the teachers for the evening are available to be grabbed for a dance, and we are also on-call if you have any questions about the moves from the evening (or any other evening). So don't feel shy about it, come and grab us! Elmgrove LeRoc has the biggest teaching team in Bristol, so you can be sure that you will receive the time and attention that you need to become a really really good dancer.
